Top 10 Places to Visit in Chile

Planning on a visit to Chile? Here is a guide to 10 places not to miss in Chile, the longest country in the world. Torres del Paine National Park

Star Gazing in the Atacama Desert

In some parts of the Atacama Desert, the last drops of rain fell hundreds of years ago. The Atacama is the driest desert in the world. This fact, combined with the lack of major cities in the area makes the Atacama Desert the best place in the world for looking at the stars.

Drinking Chilean Wine

Some of the most renowned wine growing areas include the Maipo Valley just outside of Santiago, the Colchagua Valley near of Rancagua and the Casablanca Valley in the Valparaíso Region. Visiting Santiago

You can buy the drink almost anywhere, however the Elqui Valley near La Serena is known as the home of the drink, as well as Nobel Prize winning poet Gabriela Mistral.

Visit a house of Pablo Neruda

Pablo Neruda was another one of Chile’s poets to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. Three of the houses he lived in still remain today. You can visit theses house in Santiago, Valparaíso and Isla Negra. There you can try and write some lines yourself and see how one of the great poets went about his work.

Cruise the Calle Calle River in Valdivia

Valdivia, capital of the Region of the Rivers should definitely be on your list of places to visit during your stay in Chile. The city has an abundance of history and much of this can be seen from the Calle Calle River. Every February a parade travels down the river by boat, representing the history and culture of the city.

Taking in a football match

While Rodeo is the official sport of Chile, every weekend thousands of people go to their local stadium to support their team. The biggest rivalry is between Universidad de Chile and Colo Colo. The match between the two teams is known as the superclásico. There are two seasons throughout the year, the Apertura and Clausura tournaments. Some of Chile’s most renowned players include Marcelo Salas, Iván Zamorano, Sergio Livingstone, Alexis Sánchez and Matiás Fernandez.
